This is the letter that we received from his mission president.

July 20, 2017

Dear Brother and Sister Gordon ,

We met your son, Äldste Rylan Robert Gordon, yesterday as he arrived in Stockholm, Sweden. It has been a delight to become acquainted with him.

Upon arrival, he (and the other new missionaries) were taken to the Täby chapel for a light breakfast with an orientation to the Sweden Stockholm Mission policies and procedures, the signing of some paperwork, and a movie about driving safety.  Next, he was driven into the city of Stockholm for immigration paperwork. He then had a glimpse of Stockholm, where the photo we emailed to you last night was taken near the famous City Hall located in the heart of Stockholm. The group then headed to the Stockholm Young Single Adult Center, where a senior missionary couple retired members that serve missions) had lunch prepared.  After lunch and some instruction, he was paired with one of our exceptional, experienced missionaries. For the next 45 minutes, he had his first contacting experience in the streets of Stockholm.  Then Sister Youngberg and I invited your son and his MTC group to dine with us at the Mission Home.  I had the wonderful opportunity to spend some time in an interview with your son. We concluded the day’s activities with family scriptures and prayer and retired for the evening at the Mission Home.

The next morning, we began the day promptly at 6:30 a.m. with breakfast at the Mission Home. Afterwards he returned to the Täby chapel where the Assistants and I provided training. Here he met his new companion and trainer, Äldste Carter, (from Layton, Utah). They will serve together in the Västerås area of the Sweden Stockholm Mission. I would like you to know I have experienced some of my most tangible moments of revelation in the assigning of companionship.  I know your son and Äldste Carter will learn much from each other, and together they will be edified as they labor valiantly, with full purpose of heart and obedience, in the service of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

You may have previously received information on the mailing address for letters and packages. We have had to necessitate a change in that policy.  Letters sent to the mission office will continue to be forwarded each day to your missionary in their respective area. However, packages will NOT be forwarded.  Instead, they will be delivered to your missionary at the next zone conference, or when someone from the office is traveling to that area of the mission.  Bear in mind, that means packages may not reach your missionary for 6 weeks.

Mondays in the Sweden Stockholm Mission are traditionally Preparation Day. This is the day you can expect to receive an email from your son. We encourage you to also communicate weekly with him as this is a great source of faith and support for him as he serves in the Lord’s sacred work.
